Fixing Sailboats – Has your wind anemometer quit? Wireless Tacktick Wind Transmitter battery replacement or bearing lubrications may be the answer. No display? dashes? Showing less wind than you know there is?

Here are the fixes. If the there is no wind being displayed anymore on your instrument it may be that the solar charged battery at the top of the mast can no longer be charged. Replacing this battery often rectifies this problem. See Video 1 below. For the second problem, keep reading, or go to Video 2.

Raymarine years ago took over the solar powered Tacktick wireless Instruments as well as the wind sensor.  After a decade or so, the batteries can not hold a charge and communication between the cockpit instruments and the masthead unit fails. Where do you find the battery for a Raymarine anemometer?  How do you take apart the unit?

Here is one of Patrick’s original Sailboat How To Videos to show you exactly how to do this.

Now for the second problem. It’s blowing a stink…but your display reads 10 knots. The solution still is in the masthead unit. You have to go take it down from the mast. Watch the video below to learn how to lubricate the bearings. But first…how to tak eit apart without breaking it!
