What would Rebecca LOVE to add to Brick House in the near future? If money were no object…(but it is) and if Patrick wasn’t such a stubborn old fashioned sailor…  (But he is). He agrees with some of these…but I’d really have to sell him on others…

Can you guess which ones Patrick and I would both like…and which ones Rebecca would have to twist Patrick’s arm a little bit for??

  1. An aluminum RIB, or other light: easy to enter, easy to stow dinghy ( both of us want this!)
  2. New Anchor Chain…ours is now 26+ years old! (Necessity!) Problem Solved! The long search is over! We finally found a great quality chain that will most definitely last another 25+ years! (Maggi Chain USA)
  3. A Great backup anchor that would fit on the bow with our Manson Supreme and compliment it! Our backup anchor…a CQR is very rusted and is a barely adequate backup! UPDATE: Our CQR has been downgraded from a barely adequate backup to a nonexistent one. It’s been kicked off the boat. No replacement as of yet…No idea what yet…but desperately seeking a new anchor before we depart Richards Bay, SA!
  4. Mantus Chain Hook. Update – We have one now and love it!
  5. An underwater camera (Our Sealife is broken now, and we hate taking our old GoPro under!)
  6. Titanium Rigging IF THEY EVER MAKE IT!
  7. A compact, carefree, high output, solar powered watermaker that never breaks. (A little miracle device would be needed, as you can likely guess what Patrick thinks about this item! )
  8. A better way to collect rainwater..one that involves no user participation. ( I don’t like collecting rainwater in the rain!)
  9. Fast cheap Internet at Sea…always the goal! (Our Iridium GO! with an External Antenna is awesome, but not exactly internet!)
  10. A new life raft
  11. Hatch covers
  12. A longer running pole
  13. A way to heat our hot water tank while at anchor, with no lost power! Considering a 12 Volt element to replace our 110 element in the old 25+ year old tank we have now…but afraid it will destroy the tank getting the old element out…so we may end up needing a whole new water tank!
  14. A boat heater…that can be used at anchor and doesn’t consume much fuel or electricity…then we could definitely go to Tierra Del Fuego! Update: Problem solved, 8/2019 -but in a long line awaiting installation. Rebecca hauled a Cubic Mini Grizzly back with her from the States to install when the more pressing boat work has been completed here in the boat yard! We even got a totally non-electric Caframo Ecofan to help spread the heat! We also bought a car type engine heater for when the engine is running, from Fisheries Supply.
  15. A high quality remote security system complete with bright lights, & LOUD alarms! UPDATE: Problem solved: A custom made GOST now protects our boat! Installation underway 11/2019
  16. Mast Pulpit…Granny Bars at the Mast. Update: Underway by “Fleet Maintenance” Company at Zululand Yacht Club, Richards Bay, South Africa. Complete, awaiting installation
  17. Hatch Security Bars Done for companionway/Still want overhead hatch security bars.
  18. Navionics PLATINUM+ Charts with Photos, Satellite Charts and 3D!!! Update: 8/2019 Have purchased our first one…haven’t even looked at it yet, but excited to do so soon!
  19. The new  Element S  Chartplotter  from Raymarine! Our current model, an Axiom, is awesome…but I always love the newest models the most! We are a mostly Raymarine boat…devoted for life…until something better comes along 😉

22 KISS Extractor for our Wind generator…for more power at lower winds, automatic shutoff when batteries are charged, user selectable voltage for various battery types, and automatic shut off in high winds. Or maybe it’s just time for a new wind generator soon?

23 Lithium Phosphate Iron Batteries (LifePo4) from a high quality company! Yes its probably time to get with the times, not to mention the latest terrible lead acid corrosion in our (non) battery box (see video) Examining Battle Born, NexGen, Freedom Won, Blue Nova, Electromaax, and a few more I can’t remember…but only in the very beginning stages of looking. I wish I could snap my fingers and the best ones would be here installed. This one’s gonna take a while I think, if we do it at all. The benefits are endless…the price for it all…well the payments will be endless…but in the end, it will be less expensive. It may be a few years til we find the right setup, and the right company to work with.
