Seeing, and briefly meeting Maasai tribe members on the street and wondering what their customs are, where they live, and what they are all about…I went searching on YouTube…

This video I think is a good short video highlighting some of their beliefs and practices…

The few I have seen around KILWA and Dar Es Salaam seem to be particularly engaging, but at the same time shy. I’m not sure they speak English. They always have these red checkered clothes on…but they often have modern shoes and sneakers on. They often have piercings and makeup. I have never seen a women..only the men seem to be here…maybe they don’t venture far from their lands.

Sometimes they are selling bangled bracelets and other rough looking jewelry. They always have a quick smile, and a Greeting for us. I hope we can learn more about them while we are here.

This one below is short, and only represents two of their beliefs really.

This next one is more representative of things I think…and the third and fourth are interesting too. I hope you enjoy them as much as we did!

I am sure, sooner or later, Patrick will do his own video, but for now I hope these can help you learn about them. The “regular” Tanzanian people are interesting within themselves…but these people, because of the red checkered clothing and jewelry particularly stand out here…and I want to learn why there are so few here…or why they are here at all away from their cattle and villages. Are they simply getting cellphone topups? Buying new shoes? Looking for a different life in the big city… Or maybe their wives kicked them out or sent them out to earn cash rather than cows?

I want to know the answers to these questions and more. I will learn.
