UBER is a taxi and tuk tuk service that is an APP on your phone…you order the taxi on your phone, see the price for different classes of taxis or tuk tuks…meet your taxi driver so you know who to watch for, see its progress towards your location, see your progress on gps as it moves you to your location, and then displays your final fare. If you set up credit card payment it goes to your credit card even so there is absolutely no hassle regarding the payment!
UBER in the USA is more of a way to share your commute to work or something, but in the countries we have been at during the last few years, it’s a way to get a ride somewhere in a foreign country without being able to speak the language, without the haggling, and with confidence you are going where you want to go. In many of the countries we have been to, driving for Uber is a full time job, and there are many many drivers available to pick you up for half the price of a regular taxi or tuk tuk, and a quarter of the hassle!
We used it all through SE Asia but then in the Indian Ocean it did not seem to be available anywhere. We are in Africa now, and surprise surprise…it’s alive and well!! We are using it every single day and saving a bundle!
