I noticed on the last passage that my Iridium Go was disconnecting a bit too often while receiving Predictwind weather and getting my email via Xgate….so just did a little bit of troubleshooting. I had completely missed the fact that Iridium put up a new firmware update in October 2018! I didn’t expect that not upgrading the firmware would do anything beyond not giving me the latest enhancements! Maybe this got past you too…its time to update!

This is straight from Predictwind’s website, on how to upgrade the GO. Make sure to do it, even if your Iridum GO just came out of the packaging! It makes a big difference!!! This update also makes sure you are ready for new Iridium Go applications that are in development now for short bursts of data.

Please check you have the latest Iridium GO firmware, by opening the Iridium GO! app, login, and go to the Help icon, click on the “about” menu. The Iridium GO! Firmware version should be 2.1.8     It is critical that you have the latest firmware for a reliable connection and the Apps to work.

The Iridium GO! device contains an internal website portal which can be used to upgrade the firmware. You will need a Laptop, and a high speed internet connection to download the Firmware file.

Instructions

  1. Download the Firmware  (50MB file) from this link IridiumGO_Portal_upgrade_2_1_8
  2. On your laptop connect to the Iridium GO! Wi-Fi.
  3. Open an internet browser (recommend Chrome) and enter 192.168.0.1 in the address bar. Press Enter on your keyboard, and login with an administrator account (by default “guest” & “guest”).
  4. Please go to the System tab (top right) and select the Firmware file to upload.
  5. Once complete you will need to do another power off/on of the Iridium GO!

Within a year or two we will have graduated to a bigger motor sailer and ventuing out to blue water . Looking for reasonable nav systems . Any videos or simple suggestions would be great. Love your videos nice collection and presentations

  2. Go to a West Marine and look at the chartplotter/GPS…and get a simple cheap one to start with, and learn with…and then go from there. Enjoy it…electronics are such a fun part of sailing and cruising for me 😉
